A bat has been spotted onboard a US low-cost carrier, and unsurprisingly, the internet is having a field day with the now-viral footage.
Passenger Peter Scattini shared the moment a bat was discovered on his Spirit Airlines flight around 30 minutes into the service.
The clip, posted to Twitter on July 31, shows passengers shrieking as a bat flies through the cabin. One woman can be seen peeking out hesitantly from a bathroom stall, possibly trying to hide from the creature.
The post has garnered more than 200,000 views in under a week, giving the Twitterverse the perfect excuse for a solid taunting.
Among the most high-profile commentators to lampoon the budget airline was comedian and talk show host Stephen Colbert, who responded to the news via Twitter last Friday.
“I can’t believe there was a bat on a Spirit Airlines flight. I’ve only ever seen raccoons,” he quipped.
Colbert was far from the only person to crack a joke at Spirit Airlines’ expense, with hundreds taking to the platform to poke fun at the incident.
Scattini later revealed the fate of the winged stowaway.
“I also want to make clear that this bat appeared WHILE WE WERE 30 MINUTES INTO OUR FLIGHT.
“Where it came from? No idea. Eventually someone trapped it between a book & a cup and then locked it in one of the restrooms for the remainder of the trip.”
