A man got a taste of the high life last week after discovering he was the only passenger onboard a Delta flight
Also, the traveller happened to be a director, so naturally he documented the entire thing on film.
New York-based Vincent Peone booked a 7am flight from Aspen, Colorado to Salt Lake City, Utah and arrived at the departure gate to find he was the only passenger in the terminal.
After realising he would have the entire jet to himself, he set about capturing the whole flashy experience on camera, and sharing it to Twitter in a clip that’s amassed more than 1.66 million views at the time of writing.
“Last week @Delta gave me my own private jet…kind of,” Peone captioned the video.
The video begins at the gate with a Delta staff member making an announcement over the PA system.
“Will the only passenger on this flight kindly board at this time, Mr Peone?” the female gate agent asks, before Peone responds “that’s me,” and approaches the counter.
As the sole passenger makes his way to the jet, he asks a crew member if she’s ever been on a flight with just one passenger.
“Yes, I have,” she reveals.
Despite the fact it’s just Peone onboard, the Delta cabin crew adorably ham up the theatrics, personalising all commentary and safety briefings, and throwing in a little VIP flare for good measure. The lucky flyer is even invited into the cockpit to meet to pilots — check it out in the snippet above or watch the full clip here.
While instances such as Peone’s are rare, it’s not unheard of for airlines to proceed with running a commercial flight when there’s just one passenger. In most cases, they require the aircraft to be at the next destination, and cancelling would disrupt other planned services.
It’s not the first time a passenger has suddenly found themselves onboard their own private jet. Eight months ago, a woman likewise discovered she was the only passenger onboard a Bangkok Airways flight, later revealing to her social media followers that crew let her run up and down the aisles dancing, while two years ago another woman claimed she was treated to personalised commentary and upgraded to seat number-one after learning she was the sole passenger on a flight to Greece. Not bad for the $74 she paid for the ticket.
