A seafood product sold in New South Wales stores is being recalled over fears it contains a serious toxin that can cause gastrointestinal and neurological impacts.
Yumbah Australian Greenlip Abalone 1kg packets sold in independent NSW retailers is subject to a Food Safety Australia and New Zealand recall.
“The recall is due to biotoxin (brevetoxin) contamination,” the authority said.

“Food products containing brevetoxin may cause illness if consumed.”
Brevetoxin is a naturally occurring toxin produced by certain algal blooms and can cause gastrointestinal and neurological distress when consumed through contaminated seafood.
“Consumers should not eat this product. Consumers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund,” FSANZ said.
“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.”
